I’m using a new website for all future blog posts and content uploading.
I’ve attached some materials associated with my 2016 AMS/SMT talk entitled, “Lying About Tonality: A New World of Topic in Early Twentieth-Century Modernist Music.”
This version of the handout includes all relevant figures, musical examples, and excerpts from the talk, a brief glossary, and a relatively full bibliography. johnson_smt2016_handout_online

Once the conference is complete and I’ve had a chance to make revisions, I’ll post a version of the paper itself.
I gave a curt presentation on the chorale topic in my topic theory course with Prof. Agawu, and since I solicited examples from the Facebook hivemind, I figured I’d post my abbreviated list of results. Please let me know if there are any mistakes, and as is typically the case with things I (rarely) post, this is in an unfinished stage, merely an agglomeration of rough-and-ready materials.
You can also find a Prezi I made that suggests a few mutations of both the signifiers and signifieds of the chorale topic.
I have attached in this post a pdf of my handout for my AMS/SMT 2014 presentation entitled, “Mashups, Meaning, and Form.” I hope to upload a polished version of the paper after I receive feedback at the conference!
I figured I’d post my MA thesis from the University of Washington here so it is easily accessible to people unable to use ProQuest. Here it is!
